Caffarelli & Associates Secures Unanimous Jury Verdict in Sexual Harassment Case Against El Milagro

Published

Caffarelli & Associates is proud to announce a trial victory on behalf of Lilia Carrillo in her hostile work environment sexual harassment case against El-Milagro, Inc. d/b/a El Milagro under the Illinois Human Rights Act. After a five-day jury trial in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, the jury unanimously found in favor of the Plaintiff. The case was tried by Alejandro Caffarelli and Whitney Barr of Caffarelli & Associates.

Ms. Carrillo worked for a placement company, which assigned her to provide janitorial services at El Milagro’s Chicago facility. At trial, Ms. Carrillo presented evidence that she was subjected to repeated sexual comments, unwelcome propositions, comments about her appearance, sexual innuendo, and humiliating sexual rumors by El Milagro employees and supervisors. The evidence also showed that Ms. Carrillo reported harassment multiple times, yet complaints were not promptly or adequately escalated to Human Resources.

This verdict is an important reminder that every worker deserves dignity and respect in the workplace. Ms. Carrillo showed tremendous courage in standing up for herself. Caffarelli & Associates is grateful that the jury reached the correct conclusion and finally held El Milagro accountable.
